Wildlife Safari with Ed Drewitt, Naturalist and Broadcaster

A wildlife safari through the Forest of Dean
3rd October 2020 - 31st October 2020

Description

The Forest of Dean is home to over 30 species of mammal including a vast variety of bats, deer, badgers, foxes, voles, mice, hedgehogs and wild boar. Later afternoon and evening time are the perfect times to spot boar, when they come snuffling out to feed at dusk and during the night. We’ll be visiting popular places for the boar and looking out for their humbug-patterned boarlets, as they run alongside their mum or aunts. Fallow deer, large deer with a white-spotted coat and broad antlers, are also frequently seen here and may be encountered at any time, along with the very small Muntjac. Amongst the ancient woodland we’ll also be listening out for evening birdsong, as Song Thrushes, Blackbirds and Robins, and less common birds such as wood warbler, proclaim their territories before nightfall. We may even glance a roding woodcock, a peculiar looking bird with a long bill, a bulky body and a frog-like croak, as it displays overhead. At the nearby Cannop Ponds, glamorous and striking Mandarin Ducks might be resting on the banks.

The group size will be between 4 to 10 people. After the walk you will return to the Tudor Farmhouse for a well deserved charcuterie board and glass of wine (or beer).

Bring warm layers, boots or robust walking shoes and a torch.

Please call us on 01594 833046 to book your place. Tickets are £40 per person.
