We were greeted with a warm welcome from Jenny who showed us to the family room, Ross Suite. We could not have asked for better, the room has fantastic double aspect views and there was more than enough room for all (my husband, teenage son and daughter age 10). The breakfasts are just delicious and the beds so comfy. Very helpful with ideas for things to do. The whole family particularly enjoyed canoeing from Kearne Bridge to Symonds Yat. All had a fabulous stay would love to return again (soon)!

Such a lovely review requires a big grateful thank you. It was our pleasure to have such nice people stay with us and we'd love them to return also.

Having seen pictures of Portland House Guest House, I'd promised myself a visit, alongside a trip to my old school in Monmouth. It did not disappoint. Jenny and John gave me what my mother would call a good Welsh welcome, informal and friendly, as well as plenty of food on the table! And what food. Jenny offers an amazing selection of home made goodies as well as impressively sourced local produce. I was only sorry my stay wasn't longer to work my way through the carousel of home made jams. Although on my own, my hosts made me feel very much at ease and I would very much recommend it as a place for the single traveller to relax.
My room, the Monmouth suite, was comfortable and luxurious, and the bathroom could have come out of a Homes and Gardens magazine. Can't wait to find another reason to go back.

My family stayed at Portland House over the August Bank Holiday weekend, and we certainly struck gold! Portland House is a beautiful building which oozes history, and our family room was clean and comfortable, with direct access to the stunning garden and equally stunning Jack Russell, Jess (who my daughters adored!). The breakfasts were delicious and set us up for several days of rambling in the local area - particularly recommend the walk to the Biblins with its fab wooden footbridge, a highlight for the kids. We barely got in the car as there was lots to do on our doorstep, and John and Jenny were full of recommendations and advice, going out of their way to make us feel like part of the family. We have long loved this area, and I confidently predit we'll be back!

Great review from a great family. Hope they come back soon. The lovely daughters are featured on Jess' blog on our website.

We are still talking about the wonderful break we enjoyed with you. The weather could not have been better and the house is superb. Your breakfasts, with home produced bread and preserves and the apple pancakes, are unique in our experience within the world of B&B And the suite is delightful, the height of the four poster bed being perfect to accommodate my wife's mobility
problem. We were able to cover much of the Valley and Forest of Dean from Portland House, within short car journeys and found the proximity of the House to a first rate restaurant most convenient. We shall certainly recommend that friends and family, wishing to visit the area, make a booking with you and we are resolved to make a second visit ouselves, when Dorothy is recovered from her forthcoming, full hip replacement and fit for walking again.

A wonderful break in warm and friendly surroundings. The hidden bonus was Jess the dog who will take you for a walk along the beautiful Wye Valley at a moments notice. We hope to return soon. Alan and Anne Mesure
