Lydbrook Band concert in a quarry
Forest of Dean Stone Firms, in association with Lydbrook Band is pleased to present ‘Proms in the Quarry’, an extraordinary open-air concert in Barnhill Quarry, Forest of Dean, on Saturday 20th July.
Arrive from 5.30pm and walk into the depths of the quarry for this unique event in a natural amphitheatre. Lydbrook Training Band will open the concert at 6.30pm, with Last Night of the Proms starting at 7pm. The audience will be serenaded by the magnificent and naturally amplified brass sounds of Lydbrook Band and Soprano vocalist, Sue Black.
Managing director of Forest of Dean Stone Firms, Nicholas Horton said:
“We first talked about the Proms in 2017 when we marked our association with Lydbrook Band with a performance of the title music of The Flintstones in the quarry. We all were stunned by the sound, the acoustics were incredible. We knew there and then, that we had to put on a full performance.
“As it’s an operational quarry we have managed to work areas to create a stage and theatre – it’s been a challenge but we cannot wait to see people’s faces when they hear the sound!”
Commenting on behalf of Lydbrook Band, secretary, Robert Morgan said:
"We are really excited about this unique event in Barnhill Quarry and are grateful to Forest of Dean Stone and their MD, Nick Horton for giving us this opportunity. There can't be many concerts that have been presented in the depths of a working stone quarry and everyone is encouraged to come along and have some fun with Lydbrook Band for this one-off 'Last Night of the Proms' concert."
Tickets are £10 each. Children aged 16 and under are free when accompanied by an adult. The event will raise funds for new instruments and support the Training Band.
