Have an Adventure with us this February Half-Term

This February half-term make a plan to visit the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley and sample some of our family friendly fun! We've got plenty of choice for kids of all ages, with exciting indoor and outdoor activities, attractions and special events and great family oriented places to stay too. There's kids cookery classes, llama trekking, arts and crafts activities, zip wires and cycling adventures and a Shaun the Sheep trail too. Find out more about what we've got to offer:

Outdoors activities and attractions

Families love getting outside exploring one of Britain’s largest forests, as well as the miles of picturesque riverside tracks and panoramic viewpoints overlooking as many as 12 different counties in some locations. Walk, cycle, swing, canoe or climb your way to a fun family-friendly adventure in nature.

Or why not head in to the mystical ancient woodlands of Puzzlewood, which will soon be taking a starring role in The Secret Garden remake (released in April). They reopen after a winter closure on Saturday 15th February and are an ideal day out for all ages with a range of indoor and outdoor activities too. Download the Puzzlewood app to take part in an interactive treasure hunt, monkey around the outdoor play area, refuel in the café and try not to get lost in the indoor maze.

For active kids there's paintballing with HS Activities in Herefordshire. Employ stealth and cunning to outwit the enemy and capture the flag, attack the fortress, hunt the colonel and various other games throughout the day. Or try laser tag at Battlesports Glos in the Forest of Dean. These quick hour-long sessions are the perfect tonic for burning off excess energy during the half-term break.

Beechenhurst is an ideal family location to get to know the Forest of Dean with a huge outdoor playground, the start of the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail and a Shaun the Sheep 1.3-mile interactive activity trail that is suitable for all ages from toddlers upwards. Eager explorers can download the app and pick up an activity pack to tackle a series of puzzles along the trail to help Shaun charge up the communicator so that the alien, Lu-La can phone home.

Cycling fans can hire bikes from Pedalabikeaway or Dean Forest Cycles and take on a variety of routes including the looping 11-mile Family Cycle Trail that is suitable for all ages and abilities and follows old mining railway tracks past local beauty spots such as Cannop Ponds and Mallards Pike. Or for more of a challenge try the Verderer’s mountain bike trail for tricky challenges and thrilling downhill sections.

Brave adrenaline seekers can test themselves this half-term and enjoy 50% discounts (booking required between 17th – 21st February) at the National Diving and Activity Centre on both the zipwire and the giant 3G swing. Choose between a ride along a 700m wire above the flooded quarry, or the g-force inducing swing which launches willing participants 75m over the steep quarry edges.

Or how about some llama trekking at Briery Hill Llamas, Krazy Golf next door to Taurus Crafts for a fun group activity or some high ropes adventures with Go Ape or Forest of Dean Adventure? Wow the kids with the amazing range of birds at The International Centre for Birds of Prey, or become a knight at Goodrich Castle, take a train ride at Perrygrove Railway or race to the finish at the Amazing Hedge Puzzle!

Indoors activities and attractions for a weather-proof holiday

Explore the impressive and mysterious natural cave systems at Clearwell Caves in the Forest of Dean, learn about the history of mining and head 100ft below ground to discover the nine awesome show caverns, full of exciting things to discover. Or take on one of the deeper level caving experiences (pre-booking required) to clamber through tunnels and caverns even further down!

Every holiday period you'll find a wide range of activities at Taurus Crafts near Lydney and this half-term is no exception. There's stone carving, pottery painting, puppet shows and more every day from 15th - 23rd February. Plus on site is a wide range of shops, arts and crafts and a cafe.

Give the kids a chance to develop new skills, get messy and relieve grownups of making lunch with Harts Barn Cookery School’s Cookery Day for Kids. The class is suitable for complete beginners and will teach children all they need to know to create a delicious lunch before spending the afternoon baking and decorating cupcakes to take home.

There's also Twit Twoo clay owl making at Eastnor Pottery, the Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo, pottery sessions at Hot Pot Pottery, theatre, museums, galleries, food and drink and more.
