Directions
1). Via the M4/M48 and Severn Bridge Once you have crossed over the M5/M4 interchange near Bristol, you will come to a motorway fork either to M4 to South Wales or the M48 to Chepstow. Take the M48 to Chepstow using the old Severn Bridge rather than the new one. Cross over the Severn Bridge (toll £5.70) and take the first exit to Chepstow. Follow signs to Chepstow until you reach a large roundabout (second one). You now have three choices. The average journey time from the Severn Bridge is about 20 minutes. a). The Most Scenic Route Take the 2nd exit (straight on and signed to Monmouth (A466). This road follows the course of the river Wye. Keep straight on for about 10 miles passing through Tintern and Llandogo. About 2 miles beyond Llandogo you cross over the Wye at Bigsweir Bridge (there are traffic lights on the bridge). Just past the bridge you will see a turning uphill on the right signposted to St. Briavels and Clearwell. Carry on straight up this hill for about 3 miles until you reach a T junction. You turn left here and will see almost immediately the sign for Clearwell. Follow the road past Clearwell Castle on your left hand side to the preaching cross by the Wyndham Arms. Turn right here and we are 50 yards on the left hand side. Parking at the rear of the Hotel. b). The Most Direct Route Take the 3rd and last exit signed to the Forest of Dean. You then bypass Chepstow town centre - carry straight on the A48 for about 8 miles to Lydney. Do not go on the Lydney bypass - head into the town itself. When you see a petrol garage on your RHS, take the first left signed to Coleford. Follow through Bream until you reach a T junction. Turn right and immediately left to Clearwell. Follow the road past Clearwell Castle on your LHS to the preaching Cross by the Wyndham Arms. Turn right here and we are 50 yards on the left hand side. Parking at rear of Hotel. 2). Via the M50, Ross on Wye and Monmouth At the end of the M50 join the A40 heading towards Monmouth. Do not go into Monmouth town centre but keep on the dual carriageway. At the traffic lights turn left over the stone bridge across the River Wye. Bear right at the 1st junction towards Chepstow. Travel along the A466 towards Chepstow until Redbrook (about 3 miles). Take the left turn which is signed to Clearwell and Newland. Travel along the lanes through the village of Newland until you reach Clearwell village. At the cross in the centre bear left. The Tudor Farmhouse Hotel and Restaurant is about 50 yards on the left hand side, next to the Butchers Arms. Car parking can be found at the rear of the Hotel. 3). Via Gloucester Take the A40 following the signs for Ross on Wye and Chepstow until you get to a roundabout where you bear left on the A48 to Chepstow. This road runs along side the River Severn passing through the Minsterworth and Westbury on Severn. About 2 miles past Westbury turn right - signposted to Cinder ford and Littledean (by a petrol garage). Follow the road through Littledean and up the hill to Cinderford. At the top of the hill, bear left on the B4226 to Coleford. When you get to Coleford turn left at the traffic lights on the B4228 to Chepstow. About 1 mile out of Coleford at the brow of a slight hill you turn right to clear well (by the Lambsquay Hotel). Follow the road into Clearwell and The Tudor Farmhouse Hotel and Restaurant is on the right hand side next to the Butchers Arms. Car parking can be found at the rear of the Hotel. Have a safe journey.
