The Shire Hall

The Shire Hall in Monmouth is a beautiful, historic attraction, licensed for Weddings and public entertainment. Open daily for tours of the historic courtrooms and Tourist Information Service.

The Shire Hall is a magnificent Grade 1* listed building right in the heart of Monmouth.

Built in 1724 as the Court of Assizes and Quarter sessions, the building has been refurbished to a very high standard.

The Shire Hall is available to hire for Weddings, Conferences, functions and events.

We have:

  • A lift to all floors
  • Rapid wi-fi connections
  • Catering facilities.

The Reception area also incorporates a Visitor Information area and retail section, selling local gifts and providing free leaflets to visitors to the area.

The history and heritage of this very important building has not been lost – visitors can step back in time to the famous Chartist Trials of 1840 in Courtroom number 1 and visit the prisoners in the basement holding cells.

Mon - Sat: 10am - 4pm *

Sunday: By arrangement

The Shire Hall is available to host Weddings, Functions & Corporate events between 8am and 12 Midnight.

*Occasionally during exclusive use celebrations the Shire Hall may not be available during the above times so please do call us ahead if you are making a special trip to visit us.
