Lydney is a beautiful historic market town on the Southern edge of the Forest of Dean.

Called the 'Gateway to the Forest' the town offers a great place to visit and explore, with a range of shops and attractions including:

  • Taurus Crafts with a range of local crafts and produce as well as a range of events and activities throughout the year
  • Lydney Park Gardens with its beautiful displays and ancient Roman ruins and Temple
  • Bathurst Park in the centre of town with playgrounds, formal gardens, sports facilities and café
    .  Bathurst Park has public toilets including access for disabled and a 'Changing Place' area.
  • Bathurst Swimming Pool, considered to be one of Gloucestershire's best kept secrets, is a 38 metre outdoor pool open for at least ten weeks during the summer each year
  • Lydney's historic Harbour where you have spectacular views across the Severn Estuary and walks around the canal and yachts. 
  • Dean Forest Railway for a historic stream train ride through the Forest of Dean to Lydney.  There is a cafe, musuem and gift shop at the main Norchard Station and special days through the year.

DRIVING

Lydney is located on the A48 between Chepstow (10 miles away) and Gloucester (20 miles away).

  • You can park in the Town Centre main car park found at Albert Street (GL15 5LU) to explore the town centre.
  • To get to the harbour follow the A48 link road around the town and follow the Harbour signs. 

TRAIN

Lydney Train Staion is located one mile for the Town Centre and contected by bike and foot paths to the town.  The Station is operated by Arriva Trains Wales and on the Gloucester-Newport line. 

The station has wheel chair access (accessible ticket machines, step free access onto trains plus ramp available) and trains have bicycle facilities. 

BUS

Lydney is connected by bus to Coleford - Gloucester Service by the Stagecoach No. 23
