Attraction in or near Ross-on-Wye

Description

Visit Wobage Makers Gallery where you will have the opportunity to see and purchase the work of eight makers of pottery, furniture and jewellery made in the adjacent workshops. The gallery is staffed in turn by the craftspeople themselves who are always happy to welcome visitors and to discuss their work.

The gallery is located in one of the stone barns that make up Wobage Farm Craft Workshops, started as a pottery in 1977 by renowned potters Michael and Sheila Casson, in more recent years it has grown to accommodate the larger more diverse group. This currently comprises:

  • Sheila Casson who makes salt glazed stoneware and porcelain pots
  • Ben Casson, fine furniture and smaller items in local hardwoods
  • Patia Davis maker of contemporary slip trailed earthenware and porcelain pots
  • Jeremy Steward, maker of wood fired soda glazed stoneware pots
  • Sheila Herring, black earthenware slip glazed pots
  • Clair Hodgson gold and silver etched jewellery
  •  Andrew and Clare McGarva make blue and white painted stoneware, traditional slip trailed earthenware and medieval tiles
  • Clyde Hoare is a basket maker and has recently become part of the the maker community at Wobage
  • Also occasionally displayed are Clare McGarvas hand dyed textiles and Lucy Cassons tin sculpture

There is plenty of parking space available and for those less able, there is provision for parking close to the gallery which is accessed via a gently sloping path suitable for wheelchairs.

The makers run three exhibitions a year at the gallery, usually in May, September as part of the Herefordshire Art Week and in November for the run up to Christmas.
