Bed and Breakfast in or near Coleford - 1 double and 1 twin

Description

Longwood is a former Forestry Commission house dating from the 1920’s which has been extended in recent times and brought firmly into the 21st century. Each bedroom has Freeview television, dvd player and free WiFi. The double room has a large en-suite shower room and the twin room has a dedicated bathroom with bath and shower.

Breakfast is included in the room price and is something of a feature with a well-stocked cold table and a range of cooked items available. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free meals can be provided but a little notice for the latter would be appreciated. Our food is sourced locally and includes home-made bread and  Judith’s preserves.  Packed lunches and evening meals are also available.

The house retains some features from the 1920’s and the furnishing of both the double room and the residents dining room reflect the earlier history of the house. The en-suite shower-room attached to the double room is thoroughly modern, however, as is the twin room and the bathroom used exclusively by residents of this room.

There is a garden which residents may access from a gate at the side of the house. Sunsets can be spectacular and a glass of something on a warm evening can be enjoyed on the patio. The small kitchen garden supplies some of our seasonal produce.

Longwood is situated on the edge of the forest and a path leads from the car park into the forest itself.  From this path it is possible to walk down to the River Wye, coming out at Biblins, or take a slightly easier route to Symonds Yat Rock. Along the way there is the chance to see deer, boar, squirrel and peregrine falcon.

Monmouth is some 5 miles to the West and Ross on Wye about the same distance to the North. The forest town of Coleford is about a mile and a half down-hill to the South and has a range of independent shops and a small cinema showing the latest films.

Christchurch itself has a small shop, a large Forest Holidays site from which cycles can be hired, several pubs and the oldest church in the Forest.

There is ample off-road parking for cars at Longwood and bikes and motor-bikes can be secured in the on-site garage.
