Longhope

Longhope lives up to its name and is a very long village. Mentioned in the Domesday Book, it has a rich history but is a typical English village and that is its charm.

St Briavels

Small but interesting village with a former royal castle, now a youth hostel. Set high above the Wye Valley there are good views into the Forest and to Wales in the distance.

Mitcheldean

Large and thriving community on the northern fringe of the Forest with old timbered houses, a fine church and an artisan brewery.

Coleford

One of the small market towns in the Forest, Coleford is also its administrative centre. Centrally placed it is an ideal location for exploring the area with many of the main attractions nearby.

Former mining village, now one of the main centres of employment. Ideal base for touring the Forest and the home of the Dean Heritage Centre.

Ruardean

Pretty village on the Gloucestershire/Herefordshire border with commanding views over the Wye Valley. Ruardean Hill is the highest point in the Forest.
