Coronavirus Information

Updated guidance, 11th May 2020:

In England: Restrictions on travelling for exercise and the lengths of time people can exercise within England have been removed. That means that you can now travel unlimited distances - only with people in your own household - and stay outside as long as you want.

If you are going to travel to the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley (within England) please do so with caution, common sense and consideration for the people who live here. They want to be able to walk in their local area in safety too. No one wants to see crowds here and we are all concerned about what the sudden lifting of restrictions is going to mean especially with the current lovely weather. Please adhere to social distancing, follow official guidance and be prepared to turn around if the car parks look busy and come another time. Do not park on verges where it is not safe to exit the car, do not block entrances which may be needed for forestry work or emergencies and please do not cycle other than on the dedicated cycle tracks. If you are walking on a cycle track please keep your dog on a lead and watch out for cyclists coming up behind you quickly.

Spring is also a crucial time for our wildlife and there will be many nests including ground nesting birds, adders and baby animals especially at wildlife reserves and deep in the forest. If you are walking a dog please be particularly cautious, the wildlife have had two months of peace and space and won't be used to seeing lots of people.

Thank you and we look forward to being able to welcome you back here again once it's appropriate to do so.

New government guidance on travelling to exercise is here. Forestry England will announce what car parks in the Forest of Dean will reopen and when here please check before you travel. The RSPB will announce reopening of the car parks at their two Forest of Dean reserves Nagshead and Highnam Woods herePlease use caution as before and follow the official guidance here when outside your home. If a car park looks busy when you arrive please be prepared to turn around and go home. Please take all of your rubbish home with you. See here for the pubs and cafes providing takeaway services. The Countryside Code is here.

In Wales: there is no change to restrictions so please do not travel to Wales. The same is stated in this update on 29th May 2020.

Ways you can continue to support our local businesses:

We've put together an online gift guide here featuring all of our businesses which sell products online including food and drink, arts and crafts, and gift vouchers which are a great way to pay it forwards and keep supporting our businesses during this difficult time.

We've also put together a list of businesses providing takeaway and delivery services during this time here. Some are providing hampers and picnic baskets too.
