Self Catering in or near Ross-on-Wye
Our four cottages are in Llangaron a picturesque village and ideally situated in the Wye-Valley, close to the Forest of Dean and between the two historic market towns of Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth. We are also convenient for Hereford with the famous Mappa Mundi housed in its Cathedral, or Abergavenny, the gateway to South Wales and the Brecon Beacons.
Wagoners Cottage A one storey, two bedroomed, very popular holiday cottage converted from an old farm wagon shed. It has exposed beams and a charm of its own views of open countryside, a patio area with barbeque plus large lawn at the back, all enclosed.
Barn House and Owls Nest Two very comfortable cottage each with three bedrooms. They have modern kitchens and new bathrooms, sitting and dining rooms in each. New carpets throughout in January 2010. Plus the added convenience of an extra toilet downstairs.
Each self-catering cottage sleeps from 2-6 persons and has its own private enclosed garden, garden furniture, barbeques and views of open countryside. Each cottage is popular with both couples and families.
The Granary A recent barn conversion sleeping from 6-12. With original oak beams, an oak floor boarded lounge and a large farmhouse kitchen with a rustic slated floor and a table to seat up to12 persons. It has three very spacious bedrooms and three large bathrooms. It can be rented on its own or at certain times of year together with one, two or three of our other cottages, therefore suitable for a large family group.
A variety of tourist/local information, Angela's suggested day trips, directions to local supermarkets and tourist information centers are on hand in each property, plus a complimentary bottle of locally produced JUS apple juice if staying for a week or more.

Reviews
Have you been here recently? Add your review - click here!We stayed here in August of 2011 and had a great time. We were a group of 17 in the Granary and another of the cottages (Owl's nest). The website describes the accommodation very well and it was just as we hoped it would be (and better). We had searched for a long time to find accommodation that was good quality and good value and we were so pleased to find it. We found the house in a good, clean condition with everything working. The kitchen was incredibly well stocked and smartly presented with up to date appliances and furniture in Ikea style and we managed to seat 17 for meals (with an extra garden table and chairs). The living room had plenty of comfortable sofas/seats and the bedrooms had a good amount of space to move around. The bathrooms were smart, clean and up to date. We had checked who was going to sleep where, so even though there were only three bedrooms in the Granary, it suited us fine. Foldaway beds can be moved around a bit to suit. The owners were very helpful in providing information both before and during our stay and we couldn't fault their kindness. We are used to staying in self catering cottages and National Trust houses and this one compared very favourably (and was cheaper too!) I have recommended this place to friends and family. Sorry to see a poor review from another visitor as this just did not match our experience. Be sensible and read the website for yourself and check details about bedrooms and bedding (we brought our own). I thought it was one of the best websites for showing you exactly what you were getting for your money. Have a happy holiday! Feb 04th 2012 by J S in Oxfordshire August 2011 - Stayed at the Granary with another family. The accommodation was totally filthy with accumulated dirt. We swept the floor ourselves and there was a dustpan full of debris. Complained to the owner about blocked shower, poor cleanliness and 2 TV's not working. Did unblock the shower but nothing else done. Cannot begin to describe just how awful it was. Broken patio furniture in utility room. Lots of notices stuck on walls/instructions for guests to comply with. Very inhospitable. We had 3 children with us and it was so bad it felt like a health hazard. There were dead insects and cobwebs all over and all the surfaces were covered in dust. We had to hire bedding on top of the cost of accommodation, which we haven't come across before. The wide Ross on Wye area is lovely, although Llangarron has nothing to offer. The garden was very small and in our opinion the accommodation would not be suitable for the advertised 12 people. This would mean 4 in each bedroom and not sufficient living space for so many people. To be honest, we were discusted. Aug 13th 2011 by C M in Leicestershire Thank you for your review which I was expecting after I found 6, A4 pages of negative comments left in The Granary after your departure…also the evening you returned home I received your email, which said ‘we want you to acknowledge the issues, apologise and remedy as appropriate’. I am now officially supposed to highlight any positive aspects of your review, but sadly there are not any. So I will begin by apologising for any legitimate complaints: You arrived at the cottage on the Friday and my husband and I were attending the other three cottages on the following day, Saturday. At 12midday on the Saturday I called to see you and check all was ok and you said ‘yes’ you did not mention anything at all was amiss. However on the Sunday evening you phoned me to say that one of the showers was blocked, you also said that it was not totally blocked, only when one washed ones hair, therefore being in the shower for a longer period (i.e., water was slow draining out of the shower tray) I attended this within 36 hours and removed hairs from under the drain hole. I apologise for this but on cleaning the shower tray they were hidden and not obvious and I did not notice the water was slow draining out of the tray as did not run sufficient water to notice whilst cleaning it. If I had been in it washing my hair no doubt I would have, so I apologise for this oversight. Llangarron went digital a few Months before your stay and I straight away amended my web site down from 4 TVs to 2 TVs. We decided that 2 TVs in The Granary was sufficient for a three bedroomed property, one in the sitting room and one in one of the bedrooms so did not replace 2 of them with digital TVs. It was an oversight not to remove the actual TVs from the property. I wish you had mentioned to me when you rang about the shower as I could easily have supplied another TV to you. You did mention it but just said that whilst you were on the phone you wanted to point out that there were only 2 TVs working and not 4. I did not think it was a problem the way you mentioned it to me or I would have supplied you with another… During the same phone conversation you said that you had had to sweep out and disinfect the worktops and table, but admitted that the bathrooms were all clean. I think that perhaps there were a few crumbs left under the kitchen units which do not have kickboards - IKEA style, but I find it insulting for you to say you needed to disinfect! I feel this is a gross exaggeration as the comment on cobwebs and dead insects all over the place is. I am an ex nurse and cannot understand that The Granary could possibly be a health hazard. Hiring bedding on top of the accommodation… My prices are based on not having bed linen…but if guests want bed linen I will supply it and make up the beds for arrival. This is clearly explained on my web site, many guests prefer to have the lower rental price and bring their own, but they do have a choice and your choice was to hire it. My husband and I searched for broken patio furniture after you left unsuccessfully I have been commended many times for the good information I supply. I.e. Angela’s suggested places for day trips out, locally produced foods and farmers markets, a map of the local area and where pub/restaurants are and also sample menus from 15 different places to eat, taxi info, nearest supermarkets and tourist information centres… Therefore I fail to understand the comment over notices. There are however notices in each bedroom on the walls detailing info about the bed linen, what to do if hired or if brought by the guest but I consider this informative. I am also very sad that you feel Llangarron has nothing to offer…. And hope that anyone reading this will go on the new Llangarron LIFE web site or on the Llangarron page of my web site and make their own judgements. I have been in the self-catering business for over 20 years with my parents before me and have always tried to give an excellent personal service. I have many returning guests, some year after year and hope that anyone reading the above negative comment will take the time to read my reviews on Trip Advisor (farr cottages). There you will find not only the comment from the guest above but another two comments written recently by guests who also stayed in The Granary and also in one of my other cottages The Owls Nest during 2011. They have a very different view of what we have to offer in the picturesque village of Llangarron.
